There are a lot of small projects I have been meaning to do. Now that
summer is here, it's about time I get to it. Like, redoing the dreary clock
that does not seem to coordinate with anything else in the room. I purchased this clock at IKEA for $2 about 5 years ago and they still carry the exact same clock. Yesterday the clock stopped working because the face of the clock started to peel away from the backing.
Since the backing would not stick anymore, I just peel the entire face off and came up with this...
What do you think? It's shabby chic, cottage style, beachy feel is what I'm drawn to the most. The bedroom is more of a coastal cottage beach feel, and I think adding the doily piece makes it especially shabby chic romantic.
All you need is:
cardstock
doily
double-sided tape
paint
sponge
Gently remove the plastic cover from the clock. The clock's hand is a little tricky and fragile, you'll have to put a little strength into your finger grip to remove them.
Peel away the clock's face and use it as a template. Trace a new circle onto the card stock and pierce the center on both the card stock and the doily.
If you're clock is already white, you can skip this step. Mine was blue, so I painted it white to give it a good clean surface for the new color.
I'm using Martha Stewart Crafts multi-surface high gloss acrylic craft paint in color:
Beach Glass
Squeeze a dime size amount of
Beach Glass onto a tray, I mixed mine with a little white here and there because I still wanted the white to show through. Don't have paint sponge? That's okay, I used a cosmetic make-up sponge.
Use a stippling motion to apply the paint. I didn't want to go through a whole process of distressing the paint after, so I just concentrated more paint in some areas and left the white to show through. Use double-sided tape to adhere the card stock. Reassemble the the clock.
I was going to add the numbers, but I already like it this way. It's a simple, inexpensive project. Especially if you're having a hard time finding that perfect clock for a room. If you've done a clock redo, share a link, I would love to see it.
